Picking the Right Puppy

Start with a healthy, happy puppy.

  • Healthy puppies should have clear, bright eyes with no discharge.
  • Watch out for runny noses or coughs.
  • Avoid pups with diarrhoea and large pot-bellies.
  • Insist on seeing the parents and litter mates, which will give a good idea of temperament and uniformity of the puppies.
  • The best age to acquire the pup is at six to eight weeks of age, as pups need the early weeks with the mother and siblings for normal canine social development.
