The Kitchener-Waterloo and North Waterloo Humane Society
The Humane Society promises to protect your personal information and use it for its intended propose only.

When you become a Humane Society employee, board member, or volunteer, you chose to share personal information with our organization. You do so knowing that the Humane Society will honour your request of privacy.

What is Personal Information?
"Personal Information" is any information used to identify an individual. This information does not include the name, title, business address, or business telephone number.

What Information is Protected?
The Humane Society will protect your personal information which it has in its possession, including personal information collected and submitted to the Humane Society by a third party.

The Humane Society collects and uses your personal information for the following Identified Purposes:

  • verify your identity
  • comply with federal, provincial, local law and by-law requirements
  • investigate cruelty and by-law accusations
  • comply with tax requirements
  • send out our newsletters
  • request donations

When you provide your personal information to the Humane Society, you do so with the understanding that your personal information may be used or disclosed for the Identified Purposes.

Your Consent.
Your consent is required before the Humane Society may collect, use or disclose your personal information, except in special circumstances, such as police and/or cruelty investigations or other situations permitted by law. If any of the information the Humane Society has collected is deemed to be sensitive in nature, e.g., health information, the Humane Society will obtain your written or verbal consent before using or disclosing the information.

How Do You Provide Us With Your Consent?
The following constitutes as your consent for the Humane Society's existing use and future collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information for the Identified Purposes: your initials or signature that you have read and understand this Policy; your written or oral consent as obtained through an application; your consent as provided by your parent, legal guardian or power of attorney.

Consent May Be Implied:

  • if you have completed any application for you and your family or anyone else you represent, your represent implies you have obtained consent from them, even though they may not be present during the application process, for the collection, use and disclosure of their personal information for the Identified Purposes.

Selling of Information.
At no time will the Humane Society sell, lend or give your personal information to any group or person without your consent unless required by law. This includes list brokers, mail order businesses, tele-marketers or other marketing companies to sell their services or products.

How You Can Withdrawn Your Consent.
You may withdraw your consent at any time upon reasonable notice, subject to legal or contractual restrictions.

How Long Does the Humane Society Keep Personal Information?
Your personal information is kept for only as long as the Humane Society needs it to effectively provide services to you and the Humane Society. The Humane Society shall use care and caution when storing and or destroying your personal information to ensure there is no unauthorized access.

How Do We Protect Your Personal Information?
The Humane Society ensures strict security systems are in place to protect your personal information be it electronic or in a paper-based format.

The Humane Society contractually requires any third party person or organization providing products or services on behalf of the Humane Society to protect your personal information and use it for it's Identified Purpose.

Your Right To Access Your Personal Information.
You have a right to access your personal information that the Humane Society has in its possession.

The Humane Society has the right to refuse your access to personal information if your information is protected by law.

How Do You Access Your Personal Information?
Please make your request in writing to our Privacy Officer, stating specifically what information you are seeking.

The Humane Society will respond to any requests as soon as possible. The Humane Society may charge you a reasonable fee for providing access to your personal information.

The Kitchener-Waterloo and North Waterloo Humane Society strives to ensure that the personal information we have collected is accurate and up to date. We make every effort to continuously update our records.
