Help the animals at K-W Humane Society by being a FUN Raiser.

When you raise money for the K-W Humane Society you help us help the animals and have a lot of fun while doing it - especially when you involve your friends!  When you bring in the money you raise, you will get your picture and story on our website.  If you raise more than $50 you will get a t-shirt!

Parents:  FUN Raisers learn valuable skills like how to handle money, planning and organizational skills, public speaking, marketing and the value of helping others!  K-W Humane Society does not endorse door-to-door solicitation.

Where does the money go?  Your efforts help us pay for special food, cleaning, veterinarian costs, training, and costs associated with finding great homes for all the animals.  The money you raise will keep the animals comfortable until they can be united with a new family.

FUN Raisers dos and don’ts

Do…

  • ask your parent’s permission.
  • let us know that you are doing a fundraiser.  We will provide you with documentation that says that it is o.k. for you to fundraise for us.
  • tell people why you want to help the animals!
  • ask your teacher and classmates if they would like to help.
  • ask permission before using someone else’s property.  For example, if you set up a stand outside a store, make sure that it is o.k. with the store owner.

Don't…

  • go door-to-door to collect funds.  It may not be safe.  Only approach people you know well.
  • forget to tell people why you are doing your fundraiser.

FUN ways to raise money for the K-W Humane Society:

  1. Car wash
  2. Walk dogs
  3. Sell your artwork
  4. Bake sale.
  5. Yard sale
  6. Hold a penny drive
  7. BBQ
  8. Used book sale
  9. Carol singing
  10. Birthday party donations
  11. Carnival
  12. Jobs about the house
  13. Lawn mowing
  14. Swear jar
  15. Talent contest / idol contest
  16. Put on a play
  17. Wacky clothes day

Be creative.  We would love to hear your ideas too!

How to plan your FUN Raiser:

  1. Decide what you want to do.
  2. Talk to your parents or teacher about your idea and gain their permission.
  3. Allow plenty of time for your event and set a date.
  4. Decide who can help with your event and ask politely for their assistance.
  5. Call the K-W Humane Society to let us know about your event.  We will help you by providing proper identification, pledge sheets (if needed), and a printed copy of our logo so others will know your cause.
  6. Think about possible problems that may crop up (e.g. bad weather).
  7. Always have two people to count the money – don’t be afraid to ask for help.
  8. Make posters and advertise your event.  Word-of-mouth is the best advertising.
  9. Take lots of photos and have a parent help you write a bit about why you wanted to help the animals at the K-W Humane Society.  Bring it with you when you come to drop off the funds.
  10. Be sure to bring your best smile for a photo that will go on our website when you drop off the funds from your successful event at the K-W Humane Society.

Birthday wishes from Maggie!

All Maggie wanted for her 11th birthday was for her friends and family to make a donation to the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society!  She loves pets so she asked all her guests to give her pet food as a present.  Well that may seem like a weird gift to ask for, but not when you plan on donating it all to the orphaned animals here at the Centre!  Maggie and five of her friends headed to Chucky Cheese for some birthday party fun!  Maggie also has a pet rabbit named “Violet”.

Thank you Maggie for making your wish for the animals!

Friend

He Shoots, He Scores!

That is what the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society thought of Alex’s 12th birthday party!  Alex invited his friends and family over for a big game of street hockey for his birthday.  After the fun of the big game – Alex received $140.00 from his guests to donate to the Centre.  The score of the birthday game was 6 to 5, and even though he happened to be on the losing team, everyone won when they knew his 12th birthday would be helping the orphaned animals at the Centre!

Thank you Alex!

Friends

Thank you Katie!

When many girls turn 13 they are thinking about going to the mall, hanging out with friends, and keeping up with the latest celebrity magazines – Katie may like those things too but she loves animals! So for her 13th birthday she asked her friends and family to make donations to the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society!  Katie brought in over $105.00 and toys for the dogs!  Katie has her own dog, a Schnoodle, and just wanted to help an organization which she loves!

Well thank you so much for thinking of the animals here!

Friend

Augustine – A Unique Name for a Unique Girl!

A big thank you to Augustine for thinking of the animals here at the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society when she celebrated her birthday on November 19th! This 11 year-old girl invited nine of her friends to celebrate; in lieu of gifts she asked her family and friends to make a donation to the Centre and to one other local organization.  Between her friends and family she was able to donate $60.00 to help the animals!  Augustine is allergic to cats, but she hopes one day to be able to work with animals.  Until then, she has a fish as pet and loves it very much!

Raking and Shoveling – nothing stops Brody and Mitchell!

A big thanks to Brody and Mitchell for thinking of the pets here at the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society!  These two brothers, Brody, 10, and Mitchell, 7, have been busy working outside, always keeping their goal in mind.  They wanted to raise money so they could purchase items for the animals, so they raked leaves and shoveled snow for their parents, neighbours, and friends until they raised enough.  They even used their own saved birthday money!  Brody and Mitchell brought in dog food, cat food, and treats!  Another big THANK YOU to these pet loving boys!

Thank you Tristan!

Happy 5th birthday Tristan! That would be “happy 35th birthday” in DOG YEARS!

Thank you so much for thinking of all the pets at the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society! This year all this pet-loving 5 year old wanted was to help the dogs…and cats too.  Tristan asked all his friends and family to bring something to his party for animals at the Centre; he didn’t want anything for himself.  Tristan came in with his mom, dad, and older brother Mason (he also has another brother Jonah) to donate all the pet goodies! There was dog food, treats, toys, supplies, and so much more.  Tristan loves all animals but especially dogs!

Well all the pets here at the Centre love you and your wonderful donation. Thanks Tristan!

Thank you Aleah and Cleo!

Wow! Thank you so much Aleah and Cleo!  These two pet-loving girls had a joint birthday party this October and they only had the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society in mind when it came to what they were wishing for.  Aleah, who turned 8, and Cleo, who turned 4, only wanted their friends and family to bring gifts for the animals at the Centre!  The girls were able to donate the following cans and bags of cat and dog food, treats, toys, collars, bones, and more!  These girls love animals so much they even had an animal themed party, with a cool guest speaker who taught them all about different animals such as, snakes, hedge hogs, bunnies, and even spiders!  The girls were very excited about donating their wonderful gifts to us AND the animals couldn’t be happier to receive them!

THANK YOU!

Thank you Erica & Amanda!

Two budding Picasso’s! Throughout the last nine months these two fabulous ladies have put together numerous art shows for their family and friends, selling their works of art to help support the Centre. If that wasn’t enough, they also hosted a lemonade stand to raise funds for our animals. Together they purchased toys and raised $112!  Thank you both!

One Big Heart

Two sisters, one brother, and one friend = ONE BIG HEART!  That is if you are talking about Alicia, 11, Jayna, 9, Anathony, 6, and their friend, Sammy, 9!  These animal loving kids got together and had a lemonade stand and they donated the money to the animals here at the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society (KWHS).  They made posters and told people about their sale as they walked by.

Alicia loves animals and one day saw Star, the Centre’s cat, and felt bad for her because her tail was amputated; she wants to help other animals who are hurt or injured.

Jayna also loves animals, all animals; she can’t choose which one she loves best!  She has 2 dogs and 1 bird – good thing she has lots of love to go around!

Anathony, who is almost 7, came to the KWHS on a tour with his Beavers group and he fell in love with all the animals.  He learned a lot on the tour and is happy to be able to give some money back to help the pets.

Sammy wants to help all the animals here at the Centre! She gets lots of practice with her 2 cats at home.

The kids saved a couple dollars from what they made to be able to purchase more supplies for another fundraiser – Good thinking and from all the pets here at the Centre – Thank you!

Leah, Leah, Leah - what a girl!

This animal crazy 9th grader just brought in $130.00 to be donated to our WILF Fund.  Leah just graduated from grade 8 and what better way to celebrate – raise money for the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society (KWHS).  Leah invited over all her classmates for a big pool party at her house and she asked everyone to bring a donation for the KWHS.

Leah loves animals and wants to be a veterinarian when she gets older.  Right now she has a Wheaten Terrier, named Kerra, and lots of fish!  In her spare time she volunteers at a local vet clinic.  Thanks Leah for all your help – they say a dog is a person's best friend, but I think you are a best friend to the animals!

Happy Birthday to Meagan and Sarah!

These two friends just celebrated their 6th birthday and their birthday wish was to help the animals at the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society (KWHS).  So these two special girls asked all their friends and family not to give them presents this year, but to make a donation to the KWHS.

Meagan brought in $190 from her birthday party – wow!  Meagan already has a dog at home, named Coleman, and she used to have a fish.  She loves animal and just wanted to help the pets here at the Centre.

Sarah brought in a $100 – plus a gift card to any pets favourite store – PetSmart!  Sarah doesn’t have any of her own pets, but that doesn’t mean she loves them any less!  That’s why she loves coming to the KWHS – to see all the animals and the different ways she can help them.

A big “WOOF” and “MEOW” (that’s “thanks” in dog and cat) to Sarah and Meagan for a very generous birthday donation!

Eryn's 9th Birthday

On April 17th Eryn McMurray had a Party to celebrate her 9th birthday.  Instead of gifts, her friends brought money to donate to the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society.  Although she did receive a few presents, most of her 8 friends gave generously to help the animals!

Pictured here is Eryn, and her siblings Callum and Aly along with one of the many kittens that the donations will help.  Thanks Eryn for choosing to share your special day with the animals!

Thank You Chloe!

Chloe Kruis turned 9 years old on April 9th and this year she decided to ask for things that will help the animals at KWHS instead of presents.  This year she was lucky to have a holiday off school on the day of her birthday.  Her 8 friends who helped celebrate her special day brought gifts like rawride, KMR (Kitten Milk Replacement), cookies, and lots of toys.  Chloe wanted to do something nice for the animals because she loves her 2 guinea pigs so much.  Happy Birthday Chloe – and thanks for sharing your day with the dogs, cats and guinea pigs here at KWHS!

Pictured here is Chloe, her brother and the many donations.

KWHS Carnival!

Come one, come all to the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society Carnival! That is the FUN Raiser Claire, Kelly, and Sabrina organized on January 21st, for the kids in their neighborhood.  At only 25 cents per person it was a low cost and a lot of fun filled day, with hot chocolate, a variety of desserts, scavenger hunts, basketball toss, face painting, and more! All of those quarters sure did add up, the girls donated $101.00! The girls love animals, had fun planning the day, and were happy to raise money for the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society.  Thank you girls!

Cool Day, Hot Fundraiser

Mira and Anya, a couple of cool names for two cool girls!  These two sisters came up with the idea of selling hot chocolate at the end of their driveway this past weekend.  With many people taking their dogs for a walk and just taking a stroll these girls had lots of business.  They have a cat named Jasper and both really love animals.  On a cool day Mira and Anya had the hottest fundraiser in Kitchener-Waterloo!

Animal Lovers

Brittany and Maggie have more than just being friends in common – they also love animals, fundraising for a good cause and doing crafts! These thoughtful girls had the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society in mind when they started a FUN-Raiser of selling cards at a local business.  They worked very hard and raised $50.00 for the animals at the Centre. The girls asked that the money go to buy the animals some fun toys – no problem girls, thanks for thinking of them!
