K-W Humane Society | World Access

May 2007 - Jilian Derksen and the Staff at World Access have done it again! Through fundraisers they hold in the office and a general appeal they raise funds for all the items on our wish list. This is the 2nd year that this wonderful group has thought of our animals. Their donations go a long way to helping us keep our costs down and keeping our pets happy and healthy! Thanks Jilian and everyone at World Access! You have made our wishes come true… AGAIN.

On August 31, 2006, our wish came true, that is, thanks to World Access. The Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society (KWHS) has a list composed of everything from office supplies to animal first aid supplies and World Access generously donated every item on the list.

Jilian Derksen, chair of the charitable donations committee at World Access said, “We were proud to support the K-W Humane Society as a whole company.” Each month they choose a different charity to support and though KWHS was chosen in 2004, by popular demand we were selected again. “We shouldn’t only help humans,” the staff of World Access told Jilian.

World Access planned several different fundraising events and activities on behalf of the KWHS, including “World Access Pet Idol” where staff gave $2.00 to submit photos of their pets. It was a success and $110.00 was collected to purchase items off our wish list, this was added to the $97 raised by the Social Committee’s 50/50 draw and the $200.50 from a Bake Sale selling cookies in the shape of dog bones and treats for cats and dogs. In addition, some staff members made personal donations and HARTZ donated all the cat and dog toys as well as the puppy training pads.

Jilian has been working with World Access since 1999 and has always enjoyed planning events and helping the community. She feels it is important for large companies to show they care about the community. She was part of the company’s Social Committee, which plans events for the staff, but she broke off to create a Charitable Donations Committee where she can devote time to fundraising.
