We recently adopted 'Milo' at Petcetera in Waterloo. Milo is a Humane Society cream and orange beauty with gorgeous copper eyes. We all missed having a cat after our wonderful 17 year old black cat 'Bear' passed away 14 months ago, but I have to say that I especially found it difficult to be 'catless'. All three of our cats have been Humane Society adopted, Sheeba, Bear and now Milo. Milo is proving to be a wonderful addition to the family. I'd also like to mention that he and our german shepherd cross, Maggy get along very well together. In fact, I found them curled up in the laundry room together after the first week we brought Milo home. This took a little strategic planning, but I'm here to tell people that cats and dogs can co-exist nicely, given a proper introduction. Milo is making himself comfortable in his little bed in the family room where Maggy has her big bed, but of course, like most cats, he also likes to curl up on our bed, or on any chair where there is sunshine. I picked Milo because he looked like he was ready to give up. He didn't even make eye contact with me in his pen, he looked so sad and dejected, he certainly wouldn't have been the cat that catches your attention, but for some reason I just had that 'feeling'. Once I picked him up, he began to purr like an engine, and I just knew that I had to help him. When he first came home, we noticed that new noises would send him hiding under a bed or a couch, but having had cats before, we knew that if we treated him with respect and kindess, this would pass. I'm pleased to say that nothing phases Milo any more, except the vacuum cleaner. In the past week, he has really shown his true colours. He gallops through the house and plays with his fishing pole mouse and a ball of yarn like a little nut at times, he sometimes sleeps on his back with his paws in the air. When I sit in my chair to read the newspaper, he climbs on my lap almost every time. He especially follows me, around the house, but also enjoys the company of my two adult children who live at home and my husband, ...and he sure knows the feeding routine! He's a wonderful cat and we're so happy we adopted him. Our hearts and our laps are full again. Best, Susan Muck |

I was just on the website and noticed the happy tails section. So I thought I would update you on Hugs and Moe that were kittens we adopted in August. Their former names were Hemi and Coley. Hugs is my kitten who is all black, he was very shy when we first got him. He now is my best friend and follows me all around the house. He gained quite a bit of weight and now is quite a pudgy little boy soon to be turning one. My sister's cat Moe is doing very well aso. Moe is the most social cat you could ever meet. And he is such a snuggle bunny, as he was when we first got him. We love them so much and wouldn't consider adopting any other pets from anywhere else but the K-W Humane Society.

Just wanted to pass along a note to mark the one year anniversary of us adopting Pepper (previously known as "Lara"). Unfortunately we have not been blessed with the honour of having children so having Pepper has taken on special meaning for us and she is our little bundle of joy! Since I (Steve) come home first from work she is always there to greet me with lots of love, attention and "head butts" ; we are so happy that we adopted "Lara". Thanks again to Waterloo Humane Society!
Steve and Lynda Hill
p.s. we weren't even cat people before adopting Pepper!! (so we've been learning a lot about the complex and amazing world of cats!)

Hello,
I adopted Laila from the shelter on March 13, 2008. I wanted to express my appreciation for everything that Crystal Lee did to help me, all the advice and information was great.
I also wanted to send you some pictures of Laila in her new home. She has been to the vet to have her staples removed, and again for her first boosters, and they are very happy with her health and progress. We've had a couple of trials, as expected, but for the most part she has fit in beautifully. And her house mates, Jake the lab and Juliet the cat, have adjusted fantastically as well.
Thank you for everything!
Have a great day!

We adopted Nero (was Thomas) last weekend. He's been really cuddly and playful from the moment we brought him in the door (he wasn't shy for a moment!). He rarely stops purring as soon as he's anywhere near either of us. He loves his new home and he especially loves all the attention we give him. Sometimes when he's relaxing on the couch with us he'll get soo relaxed that he will accidentally roll right off the couch and we'll have to catch him before he hits the floor. Most of the time he's in a cuddly mood and loves to just hang out with us but every once in a while he gets into a playful mood and loves to swat his noisy toys all around the house (and he goes crazy for toys with catnip!). We love our little guy and he seems to love it here as well :) |
