Twiggy's Tale
On October 12th, a caring family found a cat lying on the side of the road, and called the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society to find help for the unfortunate animal. Twiggy, had been presumably hit by a car, and suffered a fractured pelvis, abrasions, and subsequently, an infection. The Humane Society recognized the urgency of Twiggy's plight, and advised the family to take the cat to Beechmount Animal Hospital immediately, as it was the closest to the incident.
Dr. Boa, and his skilled staff, used their knowledge, and expertise, to treat her injuries. The following day, Twiggy was resting comfortably in recovery. The Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society would like to extend our sincerest thanks to the Beechmount Animal Hospital, for treating Twiggy, and covering the costs of her treatments. Their hard work, and caring hearts, gave Twiggy a chance to find a loving home.
Veterinarians, such as Dr. Boa, and the staff at the Beechmount Animal Hospital, make it possible for the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society to provide the best emergency care for the animals at our Centre; and to ensure their needs, and the needs of the animals in our community, are tended to.
Twiggy, the small, and lovable cat, found a new home and is leading a happy life. The Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society, and Twiggy, would once again like to extend our deepest thanks to the family that found her, and to the Beechmount Animal Hospital, for saving her life.
Leggo (Formerly Tiny Tim)
On Thursday, November 18th, the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society received acall regarding an injured cat. When he was brought into the Centre, our Animal Care Staff determined that he required immediate Veterinary treatment, and he was rushed to Manitou Animal Hospital.
Dr. Grinberg, and Veterinarian Technicians Arleen & Lisa performed two X-rays that determined the cat had an oblique fracture of the tibia and fibia. To repair the injury they applied a splint to his leg, and placed a cast around the splint to aid the healing process.
The cat, who has become known as Tiny Tim, spent the night at Manitou Animal Hospital, and started to become accustomed to his cast. The Staff frequently commented on Tiny Tim's happy disposition. Even has they set his leg, he continued to purr.In 6 to 8 weeks, Tiny Tim found a new home, and is loving his new family
The Humane Society would like to thank Manitou Animal Hospital for all their work with Tiny Tim. Their professional care has ensured that Tiny Tim will not be saying "bah humbug" this Christmas.
The Story of Jelly & Sloppy Joe
In October, Jelly & Sloppy Joe, were rescued from a breeder and brought to the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society. These two chihuahuas were brought in to the Centre in poor condition. Through very attentive nurturing, and care, by our Animal Care staff, they were slowly brought back to good health. However, due to neglect and poor nutrition , Sloppy Joe had developed bad teeth, which can lead to infection and suffering.
Unfortunately, due to his poor teeth, the Centre could not place him for adoption alongside his lifetime companion, Jelly. Without Sloppy Joe by here side, Jelly was lost and unhappy.Fortunately, Blue Cross Animal Hospital came to Sloppy Joe's rescue. At their own expense, Dr. Tara Richards, performed the expensive procedure of cleaning and repairing Sloppy Joe's teeth; as well as neutering him, so that he could remain with his best friend Jelly.
Now, both of these happy chihuahuas are wagging their tails, as they rest comfortably in their newly adopted home. We're sure they are looking forward to living a happy life, side by side.
