On Monday, November 23, 2009 the Optimist Club of Lakeshore Village invited the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society to participate in an appreciation night for six youth volunteers of the Centre.

We’re so grateful that another group recognizes the importance of volunteering in our community. The youth that were chosen to accept these awards are Volunteers that go above and beyond in their volunteering duty. They may clean kennels, participate in special events, walk dogs and help educate the youth in our education programs.
These outstanding individuals earned an award and special recognition. Way to go! The award winners are:
- Sydney Mann
- Michelle Hannan
- Leslie Worswick
- Kayla Decker
- Adela Schudeck
- Jessica Kalman
Thank you for your on-going dedication, passion and commitment to the animals at the Centre.
Thanks to The Optimist Club of Lakeshore Village for acknowledging the accomplishments of these young people and for their continuing support. |

I'm writing about Trooper, the amazing big black lab we all got to know and love at the Centre. Trooper was the most gentle, loving, and beautiful dog. He was our 'gentle giant' and he loved attention.
His favorite place was sitting outside on the grass when it was sunny out. He was content just sitting there. And the times when it was raining out, I would go in after work and just sit for a few hours with him on his comfy Humane Society bed. He just lapped up the attention! I can't count how many hours I just sat with him with his big slobbery head on my lap! Like all dogs he truly asked so little out of anyone.
Unfortunately, after many vet tests, it was determined that he was very sick and was not going to make it. It was hard to let him go, as it only took a short while for Staff and Volunteers to fall in love with him.
It's times like this that I am very proud to be a Volunteer with the Centre. I am proud of all the love and care everyone was able to give him in his final days.
In addition, Trooper's foster family should be thanked. Without them, and foster families like them in our community, we wouldn't be able to give the one-on-one care that some animals need to have. Thank you - you truly make a difference.
Even though we all hoped for a happier ending, I am convinced that right now Trooper is running in a huge field, on the sunniest of days without any pain, and that's all we can ask for.
We miss you Trooper! Tracy Roth |

Throughout the Christmas season, the KWHS participated in many Santa Pet Photos events. We would like to thank our many Volunteers who acted as photographers, elves, and even helped out as Santa. Thank you for making Christmas merry, for all of our furry and feathered friends!
